“As Naomi progressed through her studies and, unavoidably, life in general – her songwriting matured into something bigger. Something braver. Something that was ultimately unapologetic.”

“Naomi has always had an innate desire to create. Before she could read she knew she wanted to make music and, after two years of begging, commenced her musical journey at the tender age of six with her first solo performance on the violin – a squeaky rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Thankfully Naomi’s musical ability improved significantly over the years and, after experimenting with several instruments, her love of singing, performing and a newfound curiosity into songwriting led her to a summer camp at London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, cementing her desire to study songwriting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

When Naomi returned to WAAPA in 2016 it was with a newfound drive and commitment. Since her initial study of a Certificate IV in Music – Jazz (2010), she had grown into someone who had the certainty and the courage to nurture her ambition with hard work, passion and dedication. She stepped onto the scene with ukulele in hand, stringing together delicate melodies about big feelings and small pleasures. This was an era of warm, folky songs with careful lyrics and rolling finger-picked chords.

As Naomi progressed through her studies and, unavoidably, life in general – her songwriting matured into something bigger. Something braver. Something that was ultimately unapologetic. She took an interest in sound production and it soon became her ally, enabling her to create a new kind of song. Innovative melodies laid over clean beats with experimental chords, beautiful instrumentation and just the right amount of vocal harmonies.

Throughout the Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (2017) and a Bachelor of Contemporary Music Performance with Honours (2020), Naomi possessed a strong creative vision. Her songs were always magical. Over the last few years it has been wonderful to watch this artist grow, to become more intuitive and more comfortable in her craft. There is something special about someone who writes from their gut, for it must surely be testament to quite an amazing journey.”
